Storms through the weekend, severe weather Sunday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) — Showers and storms will be making their presence known this weekend with the potential for severe weather Sunday.

There is a marginal risk for severe weather Friday with a few scattered storms possible in the afternoon. Gusty winds and heavy downpours are possible, but overall severe weather parameters will stay on the low end.

Saturday starts with some rain on radar, but the rain will actually quiet down heading into the afternoon and evening. The best time to try to get out and enjoy some outdoor time will be during the Saturday afternoon and evening hours.

By Sunday the rain is expected to arrive in the morning hours, but as a storm system approaches from the west storm chances will increase dramatically.

The best chances for strong to severe storms will be west of Interstate 77. The biggest concern would be damaging winds with the potential for an isolated tornado.

Since there will be rain on and off again all weekend the ground might become saturated and isolated flooding could become possible.
